that’s a great playlist. i think i like every song on it that i’ve actually heard (still haven’t checked out sufjan stevens). it makes me want to dig out a few albums i haven’t listened to in awhile.
Thank you đŸ™‚ It is very eclectic. I like Sufjan, though a lot of his music tends to involve very complex arrangements and a variety of odd instruments, choirs, etc. He’s ambitious. I think I like his quieter stuff the best. Also he is one of only two artists I can think of that I like who are openly christian.
hmm, who’s the other one? the other christian artist, that is… i came from that background, except more stifled, and after college i was grateful to find artists with open minds about God and humanity, who believed you could reasonably be into both and still be okay. before that i thought they were mutually exclusive.
Pedro the Lion is the other one. I know what you mean. I am very not religious but I can appreciate good music and lyrics even if it’s about Jesus. đŸ˜‰
the whole christianity thing, unfortunately, does make a difference sometimes. if he’s not all preachy, it makes it a lot easier to like him but some artists really bother me with their holier than thou personas.
Oh definitely, and I think I am pretty sensitive to that. I don’t consider Sufjan Stevens “preachy.” I should add that I do not read interviews with him or know what his personality is like, I’m just basing my opinion on the music I’ve heard.
sometimes it’s better that way. i know i’ve liked a band here and there that has ruined their music for me by being such idiots but luckily i’m so out of the loop up here in alaska, all i’ve got is the music to go by!
Where do you find all of these “new” artists? I haven’t heard of over half of these bands! Awesome.
Most of them have been around for a pretty long time… let me know if you want me to make you a mix CD from this playlist. I can fit it all on one CD if you have iTunes and I format it as a data CD.
