Ten years ago, Iain made me a mix tape. In that tape, I was formally introduced to Built to Spill, Red House Painters, Sparklehorse, and Grandaddy, among others. I wish I had not lost that tape. I managed to recover most of the music from that tape except one beautiful song which has always been my most favorite Grandaddy song, and has never been released by them on a CD.
Well, I googled it tonight on a whim and easily found an MP3 to download.
It is called “I’m Not Alright,” and if you’re sad about anything, it will make sweeet loooove to you.
my oly friend made me an awesome mixtape w/ kupid kar klub’s ‘grape juice plus’ on it and would tell me stories like how she met kathleen hanna in line for the bathroom at a show.
Oh my god, Cupid Car Club. I almost forgot about them. I’m pretty sure I saw them at least once. That was after I was lucky enough to see their earlier, slightly different incarnation, The Nation of Ulysses. I used to see Kathleen around town frequently. She was always nice to me.
‘cos regular grape juice, isn’t strong enough…
yeah, didn’t they also become the make-up? my friend went to evergreen and that’s how i got inculcated into that whole oly scene; i visited her once and we saw kathleen at the pizza place and i openly gawked, since she’s a hero of mine, tho she looked visibly uncomfortable, don’t think she was used to that in olympia.
is ‘grape juice plus’ hard to find? i should just get their album at amoeba or something.
Re: ‘cos regular grape juice, isn’t strong enough…
Yes, they were the Make-Up after that, a band featuring the biggest bitch in Olympia, Michelle Mae!
I think you can still get the single at the kill rock stars web site, but I am not sure.
I think my favorite Grandaddy song is “am180”, but a lot of that is related to it being the soundtrack for shopping scene in 28 Days Later.
Have you listened to their new album?
I love “AM 180”, that must be my second favorite.
No, I haven’t heard a new album. Do they still sound all spacey?
I don’t know. I read a review that mentioned a song sung in “meows” and decided to hold off on checking it out.
I … see.
Maybe it’s an ode to the kitty cat on Mister Rogers Neighborhood.
