My “book” now has exactly 26,000 37,000 words.
Seems like a lot. And I feel like the story has only just now gotten started.
Also, Simon caught Sasha’s cold. Cat colds are ridiculously contagious. Could have something to do with how they lick each other all day.
Right on. Have yu ever read Bird By Bird, by Anne Lamott? She advocates for this sort of thing, the “just keep writing and edit it later,” approach.
Or, as one of the chapter titles advocaets, “Shitty First Drafts.”
(not to imply that your first draft is shitty, merely that editing will hopefully add the polished sheen)
Yeah I read that book awhile ago, back when I had no ideas. Books like that make a lot more sense when you are actually working on something, I think.
What I have so far has already been rewritten, edited, and fine-tuned like a thousand times. Which is fun. When I have actually finished the first draft (that is, when it has an Ending), then I get to go back to the beginning and rewrite it again. YAYS.
the actually having started and progressed on writing your novel is achievement enough in itself, since writers are notorious slackers (myself being one!), but it’s also pretty hard for me to stop editing something i’ve already written before i turn it in. i can tweak words, punctuation, and content til the cows come home :). i too find it immensely satisfying.
simon and sasha
Have you been to the vet with them? Especially Simon being a “senior” now, a cold may be more serious (although losing some weight may not be a bad thing 🙂 Love, Mom
Re: simon and sasha
Yeah, I took him to the vet this morning and got him some medicine.
They weighed him and actually he is finally at a normal healthy weight now: 13 lbs. I remember just a few years ago he weighed 19 lbs. Wow. So basically he is no longer fat. Good job Simon!
