Next time you’re flipping casually through a women’s beauty/fashion magazine at the gym (as you all do), look closely at the photography they do for things like moisturizers, liquid makeup, and such — in the ads as well as the features (which are of course also ads).
Did you notice that the products are styled to look kind of like frosting, or syrup, or pudding? Of course you’re not SUPPOSED to eat it, but I have a theory that it’s photographed that way to inspire some kind of feeling similar to the one you get when you see a picture of something sweet and delicious.
Speaking of food, Trader Joe’s cheese enchiladas are calling me.
A good photostylist knows that if you style something like a decadant treat, no matter what it actually is, you’ll subconsciously view it that way.
Not a bad way to go, I suppose.
without being insider-savvy about the techniques applied in photoshoots to create more desire for the products being advanced, I’ve often noticed that sorta “whipped-up” look on the surface of the various tinctures, etc. because, yes, dammit, I love whipped cream, and anything poofy and fluffy and whippy that even kind of resembles it. yum-o!
