For my birthday today, I am going to treat myself to a Peet’s mocha. With whipped cream! Then back on the no-treats wagon. Well, unless there’s a dessert tonight that I can’t refuse.
My mom called me this morning to sing me “happy birthday”. Today she is going to a small town in Oregon with people from her church. They will be there to ordain a female Episcopalian pastor. Possibly the first one in their region? Pretty cool.
I am not sure how I feel about this birthday. I was hoping 33 would be lucky and auspicious — it’s a very lucky number in Japan, anyway — but things didn’t really work out like I planned. Instead of a baby I got a novel. So I suppose I really can’t complain at all. 33 was good.
I always whine about how my birthday is right after christmas, but on the other hand, I have always liked the way it coincides with the new year. Perhaps not such a bad thing after all.
It’s sunny and cold today, and I remembered to wear my cashmere scarf.
Oh, and in book news: I think I have a title.
Dear Janey
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
You’re swell. This year will be a fine one, never you worry.
