+ I have been doing my crosswords all week. Today’s was more difficult than the others, naturally, as it is Thursday, but I still managed to get about 95% right. Along the way, I am figuring out the key to solving these things, which is to step outside the proverbial box and think of the many more obscure ways language is used. Though I still don’t get a lot of the straightforward names and places. I think doing them every day really helps — many words and clues are reused. And yes, for those in the know, this is good shit for the novel, too.
+ I just made a tuna salad for tomorrow: 1 can of good tuna, some mayo, relish, chopped red onion, salt, pepper, dash of celery seed, dash of dried mustard. I am excited for breakfast.
+ Have done NO writing this week. Not sure why. Work has been a little busier, but I could have squeezed it in. I think it’s just that thing about feeling like I will surely rewrite everything, and the fact that the chapter I am stuck on is monumental. Also I sent it out to two people and haven’t heard anything yet, so I feel like I need to wait for some reason.
+ Simon is getting another cold. I found out that antibiotics do about as much for cat colds as they do for human colds; that is, nothing. My vet gave them to me last summer to make me feel like I was “doing something.” But it ended up costing me a lot. So this time, poor buddy will have to sneeze it out.
+ Speaking of Simon, tonight both cats were sound asleep on the sofa after I took my shower. I went into the kitchen and pulled the can opener and can of tuna out, not making any extraordinary noises: drawer opening and closing, pantry opening and closing. But I was also talking to Brian, mentioning that I was going to make a tuna salad. Since my cat obviously understands English, seconds later, Simon was wandering into the kitchen. Mrow? he said. Do you know the word ‘tuna’? I asked. He meowed again, and Sasha came running. Smart cats. And it’s not like I ever make tuna at 9:30 at night, either. He just knew. They shared the tuna water together.
please don’t wait. i havent even started yet. my job saga has taken over!
I have a tasty tuna salad recipe I”ll have to share with you sometime. It’s got cayenne pepper and cilantro.
Kitty with a cold, no fun… Although a cat sneezing is sort of cute. Yes, cats do understand English, I am sure of this after a nearly eighteen year companionship with Libby – she new the follwing: french fries, cheese dip and pork fried rice… Or maybe she was psychic, but that is a long story. Write, I wanna read it some day – I am sincerely saying this.
Simon knows kibble, food, breakfast, his own name, daddy, and outside, which is funny because he hasn’t been allowed outside in about seven years.
i hope you aren’t talking about me because i don’t have it so i am assuming it wasn’t sent.
No, I haven’t sent yours yet — I originally ran three copies of it, and sent them out. So I am going to run three more, but it kind of uses “company resources” so I have to wait for a quiet time to do it. Tonight may work! Don’t worry, I didn’t forget.
No problem! I just wanted to make sure it didn’t get lost in the mail or something 🙂 Depending on when you send it…it may need to go to a different address so let me know when you’re ready so it doesn’t have to get forwarded!
my boys, darwin and parker, are strange. parker smells a whiff of tuna and comes speeding into the kitchen talking like nuts. i always give him a little bit b/c he’s so darn cute. darwin on the other hand, snubs it. he’s more a fan of pizza crust!
You have an orange cat and a gray cat too? ha! Aren’t they the best?
yes. darwin is a tabby, but i swear he has some russian blue in him. he’s also a polydactyl…gotta love the extra toes! parker is also a tabby but he’s half himalayan. i swear he thinks he’s a dog.
