Great show. Absolutely great. The venue was nice and small, and we got good positions to the side of the stage and slightly above the floor, so I could see everything easily. I didn’t get any good pictures, but oh well. I don’t like taking pics during shows anyway (I took a total of two). It was my first time seeing the Mountain Goats. Which are really John Darnielle and a drummer and a bassist and for the second part of the show, John Vanderslice, which was rad as I had never seen him either. It was so fun and the audience was full of true fans. I loved John Darnielle’s sincere geekiness and gratitude and the weird shit he would say between every song. Yay. My only complaint was actually the bitches standing near me who would chatter during the very quiet songs, but they were silenced by loud SHHHHHHing.
Here are some of the songs played, not in this order:
Wild Sage
New Monster Avenue
Half Dead
Get Lonely
Maybe Sprout Wings
Hast Thou Considered The Tetrapod
No Children
Palmcorder Yajna
This Year
See America Right
You Or Your Memory
The House That Dripped Blood
Lion’s Teeth
Dance Music
Pigs That Ran Straightaway Into The Water, Triumph Of
The Boys are Back in Town (Thin Lizzy)
(and some others)
I was a little sorry not to hear:
Idylls Of The King
Peacocks
Oceanographer’s Choice
Moon Over Goldsboro
Have to Explode
But you can’t win ’em all.
A+
