I feel a bit better than I did earlier. I had a salad and some tuna on a piece of toast for dinner, then I watched some baseball, and got a $40 rebate check from 1 800 CONTACTS, yay.
Then my husband came home and gave me a smooch and a cute little card he picked up for me after work. Swoooooon.
Still, I look forward to going to bed soon, getting a good night’s sleep, and waking up to the wheeze of the coffee maker.
When did you become interested in baseball? Is it something from your childhood? Your father maybe? It just seems a strange quirk for a “once apon a time punk”. Just curious.
Actually it has nothing to do with my childhood; my family was a football family. I am from Seattle, where the teams are perennial losers, esp the Mariners.
I got into baseball here in SF about 6 or 7 years ago. Went to my first game in 1999 at Candlestick. Not sure why I got so into it, but it’s by far my favorite sport.
It’s possible that watching football with my family every Sunday could have opened my mind to liking sports, but I just ended up preferring baseball.
On some level, I understand that. My family was very closed to sports, people remember watching football on Sundays with their dad, for me it was This Old House and Victory Gardens, when the music for Masterpiece Theatre came on it was time for bed.
Having said that, I like baseball now and try to attend a home game when I can. It’s hard to describe why so I won’t try, it’s just something about being at the ballpark, great looking field, commentary from the crowd, and the crack of that bat.
Maybe its the collective breathe drawn when one is hit towards the fence, maybe I just like cheap stadium food on occassion…or maybe it’s the common connection that everyone shares while the game is played, of being in the same place at the same time, seeing the same things and wanting the same outcome.
Piazza, New York Catcher
Jane,
Have you ever heard the song Piazza, New York Catcher by Belle and Sebastian? Check out the lyrics, I wonder what you will think of it. Baseball, San Francisco and cute.

No, I haven’t! He plays for the Oakland A’s now, funnily enough.
