I am no statistician. But here goes anyway. From last week’s poll, which (so far) 25 people answered …
camera
Half as many people own multiple cameras than own just one. Only one of the respondents does not own a digital camera at all, which I found BIZARRE.
iPod
I was surprised that so many people (44%) had more than one iPod. Though I guess to be fair, there’s a difference between owning one and actually using it. My extra one is gathering dust.
watch
Out of the twenty-five respondents, only six only have one watch, while nine people don’t even wear a watch. How do you know what time it is??!? Oh and hey, remember when it was cool to have three Swatches and wear them all at once? Yeah, me neither.
sunglasses
I don’t know how seven of you can just go around not owning sunglasses. What happens when the sun is shining right into your retinas? Maybe I should have had a “visor” option. Maybe you’re all just wearing hats.
wallet
I was surprised that some of the guys have more than one wallet. My husband only has half of a wallet.
computer
Kinda like I expected, it was mostly the men (14) who owned multiple computers. Geeks.
cellphone
Two out of twenty-five don’t have a mobile. People who don’t own a cellphone in 2007 astonish me. That is some impressive stubbornness. I gave up my land line five years ago.
How do you know what time it is??!?
Even on the off chance I’m not at home (where there’s a clock in my microwave, my cable box, my computer, and my stove) or in my car (where there’s a clock in my iPod, my cell phone, my car, and my laptop), there’s hardly any public places without clocks these days. Watches aren’t time-telling devices; they’re jewelry.
I don’t know how seven of you can just go around not owning sunglasses.
Well, if you wear glasses, you have to buy prescription sunglasses, which are $$$ and tend to get broken and/or lost a lot. I’ve found it’s generally not worth it, over time.
WE ARE THE SAME PERSON (see my comment below)
And you’re both music journalists who lived in Chicago! Whoa.
Oh wait. You’re a Cubs fan. Okay you are definitely not the same person. π
same here! i’m blind and not into contacts anymore as i’ve gotten a bit of astigmatism now so it’s just too expensive now that i don’t work in the optical world to shell out for prescription sunglasses.
also, cell phone is my timepiece.
some followup commentary:
–i have an ipod shuffle i bought, stright from apple, for $29. it was to transport my nanowrimo novel around. now it is my “crap i forgot my ipod at work but still want music” device.
–i have no watch because my cell phone tells time, and because there are many other ways to tell time (check your ATM or other receipt, ask people, look at the bank clock, etc.). and because i am too lazy and broke to buy one.
–i had clip on sunglasses that came with my prescription glasses. then i lost them. my sight is horrendous and i don’t want contacts. so, no sunglasses. π
My cell phone tells the time for me
I have never really owned a watch, and before I got the phone I was chronically late.
But no more. My cell phone tells me where to go and when to be there.
It controls me. π
two people with no mobile phone? I dont know anyone who doesnt have one. Saying that over 100% of the population of Ireland have mobile phones, probably because of so many people having more than one like me
I use both of my ipods. I have the big beast video ipod, but I like the little gumstick old skool shuffle for walking places, trips less than 2 weeks, and to keep in my car. The shuffle has a battery life of, oh, forever, is tiny and nearly unbreakable, and it’s not really worth mugging me for. I also have a roomate that works for mac, which may explain why we have 3 people and 6 ipods in our house.
If I could do without a cellphone, I’d do it in a minute. I hate being available and I hate the sound quality even more but my uncle pointed out that it’s a good thing for a woman to have so I keep it. If I could afford it, I’d have a landline as well. It’s good for emergencies. During 9/11 and the blackout cells didn’t work. Also, and this is good to know, when I took my CPR class, the instructor pointed out that when calling 911, it is always best to call from a land line since it is easier to locate the caller that way. To pinpoint a cell location, there’s a wider area that varies by 1 mile, which is a huge difference when you want to get to an emergency as quickly as possible. So I don’t think it’s just stubbornness that people don’t own cells in 2007.
hey i got here from tPF.
anyway.. i wanna just give some input on your poll thingy if that’s alright?
camera: some people are technologically handicapped.. even with a digicam.
ipod: i own more than one ipod and use them all the time. one shuffle for the gym, one video for work on break time, and one nano for the car. the video is strictly vids and movies. theres hardly any music on there. nano has a more calm/quiet music sequence, whereas the shuffle has angry/fast/dance music to keep me going on the ellipticals.
watch: i have one and broke it.. and i dont wear watches anyway. how do i know what time it is? i look at my cellphone, duh. lol.
sunglasses: never owned any, still don’t have any. what happens when sun is shining in my retna? i shield with hands or look away… why would i be staring at the sun anyway? lol. oh and having brown eyes helps to filter the light. light colored eyed people have a harder time with sun/brightness.
wallet: i have a wallet fetish. i have more than 10 wallets and card cases.
computer: i only have the one, so yay i’m not part of the ‘most’. i really dont care for computer/technology. though if you count having a desktop and a laptop to be multiple, then most people do have both.
cellphone: i can’t survive without one cuz of the above ‘watch’ category so i know what time it is, though i still have a landline for telemarketers to call, emergency uses, and dsl. hehe.
alright take care!
