I dug up my old blog entries today on the server and copied them to my local drive so they would be safe. Did you guys know I have been blogging since April of 1998? Holy crap.
None of that stuff is accessible right now, for technical reasons, but I still have it all and I promise to republish it someday. It will be a pain in the ass. It’s 54 HTML files. One for every month I blogged from 4/98 – 1/03
I was reading some stuff I wrote five years ago and thought, man I was a good writer back then.
I think the problem is just perspective. Maybe. Like, it’s hard for me to see what I am doing right now as any good, but perhaps when I read it a year from now I will have enough distance.
It’s so funny to read all my entries from when I was **dating**. Heh. I had a lot of confidence, outwardly, but privately I was still sad and heartbroken when the boy I was seeing told me he was dating someone else. I think I had every right to be. He was cute and everything, but a coward.
I am glad I have a document of my life. I hope LiveJournal doesn’t essplode again.
back when i was reading red mouth olive, I was writing my own journal, with something like grey matter or word press. I was totally new to it and remember how proud I was making a random image generator. I saved the entries and now I look at them and groan. It was mostly about working in a record store and having crushes on emo boys, worrying about college grades. I know how weird it is.
by the way, sad to hear you’re leaving the city, but glad you’re making good changes in your life š
Old school
I’ve been reading since ’99 or ’00. I lived in San Francisco at the time and there was a blurb in one of the weekly papers about your “online journal” or something along the lines of that description. My roommate and I started reading.
I think he still reads you too– it’s a great blog and I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit over the years.
I am interested in hearing about Seattle. I’ve never been.
I’ve been reading since the old days…speaking of which, what are your thoughts on Punk Planet going the way of the dodo? That’s where i initially found your writings. I haven’t read Punk Plant in a few years, but I saw the news of it’s demise.
