This morning I walked for an hour before the clouds burned off. I listened to a favorite BBC podcast and let my feet take me all the way out to Kezar Stadium and back.
I’m listening to Bob Dylan Stone Roses and fooling around online. I haven’t done too much else today; some writing, and listened to the baseball game. Kind of what I had in mind for today.
Brian’s in the office studying his usual scripting and listening to some crazy ass emocore. By that of course I mean the correct definition of the genre: a very loud and chaotic band from Michigan called Small Brown Bike.
You know who was a good emo band? Heroin. You know who else? Antioch Arrow. Though we did enjoy making fun of their ridiculous red socks.
My boyfriend at the time took me to some basement show in Ann Arbor featuring Small Brown Bike. I made fun of him for weeks after by babbling in his ear things like “I’d like to introduce this next song. You see, it’s about the way we all ignore each other when we should be a community, and how I see a man walking towards me on the street and think he and I should have a connection, but instead, he just crosses over to the other side. And now our world is so small but we distance ourselves, when we should really be–” Oh, so I’ll go on with this very long winded explanation for a song, JUST LIKE THEY DID, and then I’ll make some noises and thrash about for 2 seconds, then stop and say “Thank you.”
I swear, that’s what seeing that band was like.
I am, by the way, from Michigan 🙂
ahaha. awesome. God I miss those sensitive hardcore boys who were so all about The Community and The Scene oh and also sleeping with all the cute girls who came to their shows. ahaha!
AMEN.
OMG now Brian is listening to Braid! More ~*~*players*~*~ !
umm…i liked braid. but i liked hey mercedes more. i think if i didn’t listen to them at a certain point in my life i wouldn’t listen to them now but they remind me of things so i like them for those reasons.
yes, i was totally emo.
but i wanted to be a riot grrrl.
haha!
Oh I liked Braid, too.
I went to Riot Grrrl meetings back in Olympia in 92. I don’t remember what was discussed. Probably having a bake sale or some shit. Or maybe putting on a benefit show and charging boys higher admission than girls.
i love that picture. i’m thinking mug shot of a junked-out demi moore. and I mean that in the coolest way possible!
