I stayed home yesterday and it was worthwhile. My back is better (though not 100%) and I got a chance to take some long walks to exercise it. I ended up at Tully’s in Cole Valley. When I walked in, the attractive guy behind the counter (looks kind of like Christian Bale) was informing someone that the capitol of Alaska is in fact Juneau, not Anchorage. This of course turned my head instantly. The reason for the exchange was that Tully’s has a daily trivia question, and yesterday’s was: which four states have capital cities that share the same letter as the state? (Answers: OK, HI, DE, IN)
I ordered an iced tea and observed the goings on behind the cafe counter, for research, of course. I then bothered them with questions and learned that they go through three cases of milk every day (about 18 gallons), and that most people who work in corporate chain coffeehouses consider it to be transitional work, something to do before they get the next real job.
Yesterday our cat sitter came over to meet the boys and get all the needed info for next week. As usual, Simon and Sasha were exceedingly charming. I always feel proud when they meet new people and get so flirty. I think a lot of folks expect cats will be shy around strangers, but not my guys. They’ve been raised right.
Not much else to say except that 1. the novel is going swimmingly, and 2. I just ate a nearly perfect peach.
