I’m sharing music with husband tonight and I see that he has the Slant-6 record. MEMORIES!!!
I snapped this polaroid of them in a tri-cities parking lot
They put out a great 7″ which I listened to a hundred times back then. There was a song called “Semi-Blue Tile” that clocked in just under a minute. Another called “Thirty-Thirty Vision” that almost sounded like Blur would sound a few years later. “What Kind of Monster Are You?” which just rocked.
Sure they were snotty bitches from DC but unlike a lot of the other “riot grrrl” groups of that era, their music was good! And no token boys in the band! *cough*bikinikill*cough*
I still <3 Inzombia.
I actually ran into Allison from Bratmobile when I was living in London. She was standing next to me at a White Stripes show in 2001. I told her she looked like Allsion Wolfe, and she told me she *was* Allison Wolfe, and we enjoyed the show together. She was dancing the whole time. So cute.
Ah, DC.
I used to be in a band with Allison 🙂 Back when we both lived in Oly. It was called Dig Yr Grave and I think we lasted for a week? It was pretty ridiculous, but so fun. We all dyed our hair black and recorded some songs on a shitty four-track in the Evergreen State College library basement.
Wow. That’s just — the world is so small!
Allison is seriously such a sweetheart. She told me Bratmobile were playing (hence her being in town) and invited me to come see the show. Of course I came and she recognized me and was really great. Then she told everyone in the audience that America was representing with us that night 🙂
I don’t get all gooey-eyed over musicians, but it’s worth mentioning when someone is just genuinely a nice person, which she was!
There are some moments I’m seriously jealous of your younger adult life!
I love Slant 6. “Poison Arrows Shot at Heroes” is one of my favorite songs of that era, and that goofy “March 6” is appealing.
This is a great shot.
hot damn.
They were playing a show with Unwound and the Nation of Ulysses. In a parking lot.
I really am spoiled rotten.
