Found on the back deck in a large rubbermaid container: a foot-high stack of issues of “Photoplay” magazine from the 1950s. The tabloids of their time. All in excellent condition. Some sealed in ziploc bags.
Let’s look at February of 1959, shall we?
“Can Hollywood’s 3 Happiest Marriages Last?” (pictured on cover: Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner — so the answer turned out to be yes, though she would only live for another 22 years, alas.)
Ad on page 6: “Betty’s GAY with Midol!”
Ad on page 24: use Lysol Disinfectant as a DOUCHE– oh my GOD what?!?! You know, it also cleans floors!
“Your Pinup Calendar for 1959” – January: ROCK HUDSON!! SQUEEEE!!!
Speaking of Rock, the horoscope says that “Rock will find the emotional wounds of his divorce gradually healing” throughout the new year. He will also remain a closeted homosexual.
On page 54: a long story written by a girl who went on a dreamy date with Tony Perkins, a couple years before he went to Hollywood. I bet that date was so *~fabulous~* !
Back cover: “Ever dabble in a brook on one of Spring’s first balmy days? That’s how a Salem cigarette refreshes your taste. The smoke feels comfortable as never before!” mmmmmm menthols!
so many lolz
What a find… At the very least tis an amusement, but I found it to be Splendid!
