WEATHER
It’s cold today. I went outside for a long walk and wore my new hat over my ears. The deciduous leaves are all yellow and red now, and about half of them have fallen and blown into heaps and hillocks around town. The clouds sunk low today, so as I walked west I couldn’t see the usual crooked silhouette of the Olympics in the distance.
HOBBIES
Tomorrow I am going to walk downtown and visit the yarn store on Front Street. I have started a knitting project, and only five rows into it I already screwed it up. It’s the simplest most rudimentary task possible in knitting, apart from making a coaster I guess, so hopefully someone there can assist me. Tuesday morning is the knitting group so maybe I will meet some people too.
FOOD
The weather has inspired me to do some baking. I think I will start with banana bread. Chocolate chip banana bread! Mmmmm. I would also like to make muffins, perhaps with apples and raisins. And peanut butter thumbprint cookies. This morning I made whole-wheat pancakes for breakfast and they were divine.
DREAMS AND SLEEP
Last night I dreamed about a song, specifically the Spoon song “I Can Feel It Fade Like An AM Single”, which is available only on a Gax5 bonus disc and has somehow become one of my favorites. I think in the dream the song had been released as a single or something and I thought that was a wise choice. I woke up with a sore left wrist, again, which has been going on for a few weeks now. I think it has something to do with my crappy “desk” setup here. Really need to get my comfy office chair out of storage.
HOUSEHOLD
I did not clean the house today but I will tomorrow, after the Comcast person has left — they are coming in the morning to fix our screwed up cablecard/Tivo problem. This Tivo Series 3 thing has been a total fiasco. Right now we only get about 20 channels in the living room. Luckily in the bedroom we get everything so I can still enjoy the HBO from the comfort of the bed.
Most of the CableCARD problems with TiVo stem from the cable installers not following the instruction sheet that comes with the TiVo. They either just don’t know what they’re doing, or they think they do and they do it incorrectly.
If they do it correctly, presuming they don’t have defective cards, it really just works. Write the numbers down off the card itself, stick the card in the unit, get the rest of the numbers off the screen, and call it in – as long as the card isn’t defective and no one typos the numbers, that should be it. Do one card at a time, and start with slot one.
You *can* stick both cards in at once, but that’s more likely to cause confusion and if they cross the numbers up they just don’t work. Each slot has a unique Host ID that must be paired with the card in that slot.

Thank you!
They either just don’t know what they’re doing, or they think they do and they do it incorrectly.
Yeah I think this was the case when the installers came out the first time. I think the dude had dyslexia, he seriously kept reading the numbers back incorrectly into the phone.
I will hope for the best tomorrow and ask the comcast person to double and triple check the numbers/cards.
When I’ve had cards installed I will write down all the numbers myself too, and listen to the installer read them in to make sure he gets it right.
