Thanks to living in close quarters with a sick husband, I woke up this morning with a scratchy throat and stuffed up nose. Awesome. I shall be treating this aggressively for the next five days. So much for my “vacation.”
Fortunately I have plenty to do: lots of books to read, fingerless mitten to finish knitting, house paperwork to organize, and maybe even writing to do, too.
I have been cooking quite a bit this week and finally got around to taking a few pictures. Last night I made an orzo salad, here is the mis en place for that, just before it was all stirred in. Note presence of incredibly sharp Henckels knife. Never take your eyes off the knife, is what I learned the hard way a couple weeks ago.
A couple of days ago I also went for a little walk and took some pictures:
+ rapidly melting snow on the softball field. Kids were desperately trying to sled down the hill from the road to the field.
+ dead blackberries dusted with very cold, fluffy snowflakes
OH I love Henckels knives. We own just one, and boy did I learn fast to WATCH the frickin knife instead of what I was doing…which was watching the food chop miraculously… I sliced the tip of my fingernail and very very tip of my thumb off…thank goodness.
OUCH
Last week I had some friends over for dinner
While I was prepping the bananas for dessert I dropped my incredibly sharp Henckels knife and quickly did a little dance while it bounced around my bare feet.
When they heard my hysterical laughter, my friends knew something had happened, and my one friend was all ready to take me to the hospital (again).
But no harm done.
Note to self: don’t drop the knife.
Re: Last week I had some friends over for dinner
yikes.
now I want to know why you would use a Henckels to cut a banana?!
Re: Last week I had some friends over for dinner
For some reason* it seemed like a better idea to slice the bananas before peeling them.
Also, this was for bananas flambe, where all the fun is in the potential for injury and property damage. 🙂
(*Some reason = wine I drank with dinner.)
