As each person leaves the bus, including me, we all say “thank you” to the driver. The driver says “good day.” Every day.
This happens almost 100% of the time in Kitsap, and amazingly, over half the time in Seattle.
I think on SF Muni it was just assumed that a robot was driving the bus.
More friendly points for my hometown.
yay!
portland folks say thanks to the bus too. we don’t get a good day back, though.
it makes me feel mean when i am on the bus in chicago, and don’t say thanks. because people are too busy putting their chicago scowl on to say thanks.
i try to say thanks most of the time (not that i use public transportation any more here due to the absolute suckage of it). in iowa when i was in college i always had the same bus driver so we got to be bus pals since the bus was usually somewhat empty at that time of day which made the ride really quick for both of us.
I always say thank you when I get off the bus after work (sometimes I’m too zombified in the morning.) Yesterday, a car tried to pass the bus while I was crossing the street in front of it, and the driver honked to scare/warn me not to step into (illegal) oncoming jeep. I have to think it was karma for being polite, but who knows…
I have noticed that too, tis the neatest thing!
