This reminded me of when I was in 9th grade and taking Washington State History class. Apropos of nothing, our teacher, who was white and clearly an ex-hippy, decided we all needed to hear MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech. This was the 80s, so he played it for us on a vinyl LP.
He then talked about MLK and the civil rights movement, and got all teary-eyed, which in front of a bunch of incredibly self-conscious 14-year-olds, was awkward to say the least. I wonder if he ever thought he would see this day, the day a black man accepts the nomination for President.
I suppose a few people think America isn’t “ready”, that it’s “too soon.” If not now, when? Exactly when? Month and year would be fine.
But we are “ready” to have our country torn to pieces by an over-privileged, under-educated frat boy and his billionaire friends, apparently.
So ready for that long national nightmare to be over with.
I know you don’t know me
But were you not totally inspired tonight?
Like, off the hook inspired?
I sure was… that may have been the best political speech I have ever heard in my life.
Yes, I have seen the future, and it is this man.
Holy mother of god, y’all.
Fist bump across the states, yo.
Re: I know you don’t know me
yep!
Kinda wish November was here already though. it’s gonna be a loooooong 2 months and the dirty tricks by the GOP havent even begun yet.
My mom told me today about her discussions at their cabin at Houghton Lk, Michigan…and how her neighbors talk about Rev. Jackson supporting Obama so they won’t vote for him, and blatantly stating that they won’t vote for a black man. Yes, because voting Republican is such the better option…
I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with the stupid in Michigan. All hail liberal Massachusetts!!
