I’ve been thinking about getting a pendant for this chain necklace. I wanted something pretty big and bold. Everything I liked, online and in person, was over a hundred dollars, and I just couldn’t see myself doing that.
While we were downtown getting coffee today, I went into a little bead shop and found out that for about $25, I could buy a clasp and a “donut” stone, and just make it myself. The silver clasp they sold matched my necklace so well it looks like they’re made for one another. And I got two donuts, one rose quartz and one aqua green/blue, so I can switch it up whenever. I can’t believe I had just tried on something much less suitable that cost $150.
That same shop is where I bought the cord and findings for making a necklace for my little gold bar last year. Maybe I should start making my own jewelry more often. It’s certainly cheaper, and fun, and I can wear things that are totally unique. No offense intended, but Tiffany silver hearts are so ubiquitous and overdone not to mention counterfeited — the boring white tee and khakis of jewelry.
Anyway. Off to watch the ballgame. Go Phillies.
I have been passing the time making these as of late: http://www.instructables.com/id/Soft-circuit-LED-Bracelet/
I loved the idea, but I did tweak it a bit, I kept the LED’s under the lace, and used super small ones that were just a little more discrete. I also used much more comfortable parts, a better battery holder, things like that. I added a switch, too. Jewelry making is a lot of fun! I’ll be giving these out over the holidays this year.
that is so cool! and what a wonderful idea for a gift, too. HMMM!
yeah! They are really pretty with a little bit of forethought and nice supplies. Now, I wonder how hard it would be to kind of integrate your idea with some LED’s? I think if you used super-small low brightness ones, threaded into the beads, might give them a nice shimmer.. oh! so much to play with!
