I’ve decided to stop buying music from iTunes (yeah I know, a couple years too late) and use emusic and “other venues” exclusively from now on. This is after iTunes’ bullshit DRM bullshit prevented me from even making a mix CD for my friend at work, of music I had paid money for. Fuck you, Apple.
Anyhoo, I was also sick of everything on my iPod, as it had all been there for many months and my long commute means listening to lots of music. So I erased all the songs on there and am going to reload.
I just downloaded four albums from emusic by these bands: School of Seven Bells, Deerhunter, Shearwater, and Secret Machines. As always, any recommendations would be great. I like melodic, interesting indie rock/pop, from Radiohead to Feist to Decemberists to PB&J.
Do you like Mates of State?
Yes! My husband has their albums and shared them with me 🙂
haha…pb&j took me a moment to realize it wasn’t a sandwich.
Bands I am obsessed with that you may or may not already listen to…Nada Surf, Air, American Analog Set, The Cardigans, No Knife, Travis Morrison Hellfighters and subsequently The Dismemberment Plan, Metric, Neko Case, New Pornographers…
I could go on…but I’ll leave it at this. Let me know if any interest you, I’ll let you know my favorite albums or I could send a little care package also 🙂 I’m obsessed with music! Although now that I know longer have an attachment to a record store I find it harder to find new stuff I like so this is a good idea and I’ll have to post in my own journal for suggestions!
You would really really like The National. Try Alligator or Boxer.
There is a dude from here called Bon Iver who is getting a lot of press, I think you would like him:
