The last good night’s sleep I got was maybe back in February or March, I can’t be sure because I wasn’t paying close attention. I probably slept through the night, on my back or on my stomach, and awoke rested, climbed out of bed to feed the animals and myself. The next time I get a full and undisturbed night of sleep… maybe in 2011? 2012?
Anyway. Last night after work Brian and I went to Home Depot to pick up a couple of inexpensive ceiling fans (also: ice cream bars) — one for his office and one for the nursery. I was pleasantly surprised to find that one of the sale fans was white, perfect for the baby’s room. The ceiling in our bedroom is on a slant, with no attic above it, so no fan in there, boo hoo.
Brian spent like three hours installing the fan in his office. He’s so handy, I love it. He even crawled up into the attic, wearing a dust mask and a light strapped to his forehead. Finally got it working around ten. I went to bed. It was still over 80 outside.
We have a big box floor fan. I placed it on a chair in the bedroom, then positioned it a few feet from the bed so the air would sweep across us. I turned it to the lowest setting, then lay down on top of the white fitted sheet, in my underwear and sleeping bra, propped against three pillows. It wasn’t cold air, but it was better than nothing. Kona lay on the floor near the fan, Simon sprawled on the bed next to me. Poor fur-covered beasts.
So Brian and I spent the whole night that way, on top of the sheet, with a breeze passing across our bodies. I got up at about 4am to switch off the fan, but still didn’t need any covers.
Oh and it’s supposed to get to 100F today.
It is the longest, hottest heat wave in Seattle history. I will be sure to tell my daughter how I was carrying her inside me during this noteworthy time.
OMG it’s hot. That’s all I have to say to anybody on anything these days.
I told some folks at work that I had a friend who was pregnant in this nonsense, and those who have been there wanted me to forward their good wishes and delight in your fortitude to you. Good job! If you punch someone for abusing doors or being a jerk on the bus, we will all post bail.
Ugh. Yuck. I was pregnant during the summer and it was freaking awful. Just take it easy and take nice cool bathes.
Here’s what I did and it worked wonderfully last night. I have a gel cold pak (covered in a sack). I alternately placed it behind my neck and on my chest. cooled down the core and I sleep like a baby :-). It may also be good for sore necks, but it worked great for overheated bodies. Love, Mom
